INTAS project 00-291

Biomimetic Catalysts obtained by Surface Modification for Green Chemistry Processes

Objectives

·        The main objective is to create new “Green Chemistry” catalytic systems for an efficient and environmentally friendly utilisation of hazardous organic compounds.

¨      To achieve this objective it is necessary to:

¨      design a new type of biomimetic catalytic systems. It will be carried out by mosaic chemical modification of active carbon and silica gel surface with formation of active centres uniformly distributed in hydrophobic surroundings.

That means:

Ø  work out a technique for obtaining surface with specified hydrophobicity;

Ø  develop procedures for evenly distribution of active centre on this surface.

·        Design of an environmentally friendly catalytic process is another major objective of the project.

The objective will be achieved by realising the following steps:

1. Synthesise novel catalyst with uniformly distributed  active centres in a hydrophobic environment.

2. Study adsorption properties of obtained catalytic systems with respect to the target organic molecules.

3. Investigate properties of the novel catalyst in the reaction involving target hazardous organic substances.

4. Optimise the catalytic processes in relation to the physics chemical properties of the reactants.
