On the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Vasyl Vasylovych Sukhan

On 23 August 2026, we mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Vasyl Vasylovych Sukhan. From 1986 to 2000, Professor V. V. Sukhan served as Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. From 1986 to 1997, he was twice elected Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.

Professor V. V. Sukhan was actively engaged in developing the scientific foundations for new extraction and sorption systems, as well as organized surfactant media for the separation, preconcentration, and highly sensitive determination of metal ions in complex samples. The scientific achievements of V. V. Sukhan and his colleagues are presented in more than 500 publications, including articles in Ukrainian and international journals, monographs, inventor’s certificates and Ukrainian patents, textbooks, and teaching manuals.

Professor V. V. Sukhan was a laureate of the L. V. Pisarzhevsky Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1991) and the Taras Shevchenko Prize of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (1994). For his contribution to the development of education in Ukraine, Professor V. V. Sukhan was awarded the Petro Mohyla Badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2006. In 2009, by Decree of the President of Ukraine, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine.”
