The Department of Analytical Chemistry was established at the Faculty of Chemistry in 1933.
History of the department. The first head of the department was the famous chemist Mykhailo Ivanovich Perye (1933–1943). From 1944 to 1960, the department was headed by the world-renowned Soviet scientist, doctor of chemical sciences, professor, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Anatoliy Kyrylovych Babko, who founded the scientific school "Chemistry of complex compounds and their application in analysis". Ideas initiated by Acad. A.K. Babko, found their embodiment in the works of his students and are successfully developing today. Read more.
Currently, the Department of Analytical Chemistry consists of more than 30 analytical chemists - teachers, scientists, engineers, who are highly qualified specialists in the fields of analytical chemistry, namely: in the fields of analysis of environmental objects, pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis, analysis of food products, bioanalytical and supramolecular chemistry; the latest methods of sample preparation and analysis, in particular: chromatography, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, electrochemistry, as well as chemometry.
Applicants for higher bachelor's education in the third year of study choose a department and a block of disciplines. The Department of Analytical Chemistry offers two blocks of disciplines of the students' choice: - "analytical chemistry" (aimed at the study of classical and modern methods of analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, focused on the training of future scientists capable of developing and improving methods of analysis) - "methods and objects of chemical examinations". (aimed at the application of classical and modern methods of analytical chemistry to solve applied problems, aims at training specialists-practitioners, workers of control and analytical laboratories).
For students of higher education under the master's degree, the department offers blocks of disciplines of their choice corresponding to the specializations: "analytical chemistry" and "chemical analysis and management of an analytical laboratory".
While studying at the chosen specialization, students not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also acquire skills and abilities in practical and laboratory classes, necessary for the successful work of chemists in modern analytical laboratories, as well as for solving various theoretical and applied problems.
During their studies, bachelor's and master's students carry out scientific research under the guidance of teachers and scientists of the department.
The scientific work of the department covers various directions, including modern methods of sample preparation and determination, as well as hybrid methods of analysis. The developed methods are successfully tested in the analysis of real objects, in particular: biomedical, biological, food, pharmaceutical, environmental objects, etc.
The department operates a research laboratory "Chemical analysis of environmental objects and production control", head. lab Ph.D., . O. M. Trokhymenko.
The Department of Analytical Chemistry has extensive connections with research institutions and laboratories of Ukraine and involves specialists of these institutions in the educational process. The training programs of the disciplines, in particular the master's program, are constantly updated according to the requirements of today and the wishes of employers.
The department actively participates in international scientific research and programs, in particular, with the Universities of Strasbourg, Lille, Lorraine, Nancy (France), the University of Edinburgh (Great Britain), the Technical University of Dresden (Germany), the universities of Kosice and Pryašiv (Slovakia), etc.
Masters of the department have the opportunity to study simultaneously at one of the European universities under the academic mobility program during one academic year, or to undergo a scientific internship for 1-3 months in research laboratories of universities in European countries. According to the results of training/research work, they receive appropriate diplomas or certificates.
Graduates of the department are successfully working and building their careers in Ukraine and abroad.
